Deal to sell Cubs may be close
According to cubs.com and other new sources, Tribune Co. is close to a final deal with to sell the Cubs. A few weeks ago Crane Kenney told me there were at least three contenders. Today’s cubs.com page names them – the Ricketts family, founders of TD Ameritrade Holding Corp., Hersch Klaff, a
Chicagoreal estate investor, and New York-based private equity investor Mark Utay and his group. As Kenney told me in the interview, the deal could be done by the end of Spring Training.
Out of the running is Mark Cuban, who wrote about it extensively in his blog yesterday. He cited, among other things, finances.
